Emergency Relief Aid for Nepal Quake Victims

As a responsible corporate citizen, we realise our responsibilities towards our community. We know the small effort we put for the betterment of the community and environment that we operate can bring significant changes in the lives of the people.

On April 25th 2015, a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, just northwest of the capital of Kathmandu. It was the worst quake to strike the region in more than 80 years. The area was hit with a second 7.3 magnitude quake on May 12th, 17 days after the first strike of the earthquake, causing further damage and suffering for those who had survived the initial disaster. This earthquake took more than 9,000 lives while hundreds of thousands of homes were seriously damaged or ruined. This disaster also destroyed centuries-old temples and monuments, which left an indelible mark on the nation’s cultural heritage.

Human life and dignity are vital to us at the Tan Chong Group. We hence responded swiftly to alleviate the plight of the Nepal earthquake victims, by donating a sum of RM35,000 to the Relief Fund set-up for this purpose.

This amount may be insignificant, in comparison to the extent of damage caused by the quakes. Nevertheless, it represents our sincerity in helping out, more so since the Group also counts many Nepali citizens amongst its employees.
