Kuala Lumpur, August 2023 – Together with Komuniti Tukang Jahit (KTJ), Tan Chong Group has introduced a limited edition of mooncake packaging that demonstrates shared dedication towards sustainability and community development.
The exquisite, 100% hand sewn jute bag that comes with a batik twilly is the outcome of a group of B40 women community, who was given an opportunity to secure a stable income while staying committed to their family responsibilities.
By providing training in certified sewing skills, KTJ empowers a group of housewives, single mothers and underprivileged women who face limitations in pursuing full-time employment due to family commitments. KTJ and Tan Chong Group believe that the power of equipping the community with valuable skills and knowledge will be able to help improve the quality of their lives.
The response towards the jute bags has been overwhelming with more than 400 orders received, in which a total of 10 women were empowered — eight women were put responsible in sewing and another two were tasked in the packing and finishing of products.
By adopting sustainable practices such as using eco-friendly materials and engaging local community, Tan Chong Group has humbly taken a small step in sustainability by changing the traditional practice of mooncake packaging.
Through green initiatives like this, the Group has been demonstrating its dedication towards sustainability and environmental protection to its employees, while sharing its sustainable stories with its clients, who are becoming more environmentally conscious.
Moving forward, the Group will continue to play its part towards a greener and more sustainable future.
