CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR NEEDY CHILDREN

CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR NEEDY CHILDREN

During the season of giving, Tan Chong Group brought festive cheer and warmth to the underprivileged children of Shelter Home For Children and Lighthouse Children Welfare Home through our inaugural Christmas charity campaign.

Themed ‘Tis The Season For Joy & Giving’, the campaign was aimed at encouraging the company’s employees to volunteer more and support the company’s initiatives in ensuring that the less fortunate are not left out of the festive celebrations. All the children were given a chance to express their Christmas wishes on cards which were later hung on a Christmas tree at the headquarters of Tan Chong. Each employee would pick a card or two, grant the wish and wrap it. Through this campaign, employees had the opportunity to support the underprivileged children by contributing school supplies such as stationeries, school uniforms, school shoes, school bags and sneakers.

“I believe that a simple act of kindness can create endless ripples. I’m glad that our company provides this platform for us to do something meaningful for the children. Not every child in Malaysia has access to the same resources and with this, we can all help to create warm and fun childhood experiences for the less privileged. This charity campaign is also a timely reminder for us to take stock of our blessings and donate to someone in greater need. I have also encouraged several of my peers to contribute to this initiative,” said one of the staff.

The campaign received positive response from employees who donated more than the 115 gifts within a month. The gifts were presented to the children at their respective homes on 27 & 28 December 2018. The children were bedazzled by the gifts they received.

“With Tan Chong Group’s initiative, our children will still have the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas. Coming from dysfunctional or broken families, celebrating festive seasons in their own homes is not a norm and nearly impossible to achieve. Thanks for bringing some cheer into the lives of our children and the gifts have certainly brought them many joys and smiles,” said Mr Steven, owner of Lighthouse Children Welfare Home.

Besides the above-mentioned campaign, Tan Chong Group knows the importance of cultivating the habit of reading amongst schoolchildren. The Group was also organised a book donation drive to collect books for SJKC Sungai Chua’s school library. Employees were invited to donate used books or purchase any new books, in any language which are deemed suitable for children aged seven to 12 under this initiative. The books can be pictorials, novels, storybooks, dictionaries, atlases or encyclopaedias whilst textbooks, newspapers, dated publications and magazines will not be accepted.

A total of 300 books were collected from the campaign.

The number of gifts and books collected throughout the campaign was overwhelming. The immense response received goes to show that Tan Chong’s employees are committed to investing in our children’s future.

The Group affirms its community commitment through its active contribution and support towards reach-out programmes and charitable bodies and conscientious efforts towards social equality. These two charity campaigns are some of our innitives in giving back to the community. We will continue to explore more avenues and reach out to rural areas to enrich the communities and touch the lives of more children from the underprivileged sections.
