FOOD AID TO 200 FAMILIES AT DESA MENTARI AND TAMAN DESARIA
Saturday, 13 March 2021 was a day to remember fondly for the residents of Desa Mentari and Taman Desaria. It was a joyous occasion indeed as the CSR team from Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad presented food hampers to more than 200 families from these communities. This is the second consecutive year that Tan Chong Group has lent its support to Suriana’s ‘Feed the Poor Programme’ during MCO 2.0. With these initiatives, the families’ burdens were alleviated by the daily necessities provided.
This time, Suriana Welfare expanded its community work to include another B40 community group located at Taman Desaria, PJU5, Petaling Jaya. Tan Chong is the first corporate donor to collaborate with Suriana to provide food aid to Taman Desaria, a community consisting of more than 1,540 families. Approximately 30% of the residents are widows, widowers and senior citizens. The Group had also donated food aid to 4 PPR flats, namely PPR Desa Mentari, PPR San Peng, PPR Beringin and PPR Kampung Muhibbah when the movement control order (MCO) was first imposed in March last year.

The CSR team from Tan Chong were moved to see their food aid being received with joy and gratitude by the underprivileged. A particular case in point was when an elderly gentleman with an artificial arm received his food aid hamper.
“The lockdowns have impacted the livelihoods of many, especially those in the B40 category. We are so thankful for the heart-warming support given by Tan Chong Group during these difficult times, it definitely will ease the daily burdens faced by the needy. I urge the community to become more involved in combating the Covid-19 pandemic as the efforts by front liners and the Health Ministry will be futile without them.” said the representative of Suriana Welfare Society.
Apart from this, the Group has also donated RM5,000 to MAP Partners Berhad to provide underprivileged in Myanmar with basic life necessities during these difficult times. The Group hopes these initiatives will continue to empower our surrounding communities, in creating a ripple effect worldwide.
