Kuala Lumpur, 9 January 2020: Children’s laughter and chatter filled the air during the Christmas gifts presentation ceremonies at the five orphanages. There is no better way, Tan Chong Group contends, to honour the spirit of Christmas, than by helping underprivileged children fulfil their wishes. This is why we have initiated our “Christmas Tree of Hope” Campaign at the headquarters of Tan Chong Group since 2018. Running from 15 November to 24 December 2019, the Group’s employees were encouraged to play the role of Santa Claus by picking a wish-list card from the Christmas tree and fulfilling the child’s wish. The generous gifts collected were channeled to 200 children of the following homes:

1)Lighthouse Children Welfare Home, Bangsar
2)Pusat Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Kajang, Kajang
3)Praise Home, Ipoh
4)The Salvation Army Children’s Home, Ipoh
5)The Salvation Army Boys Home, Ipoh

One of the homes’ occupants, Zachary, 5, said he was thankful to receive the tumbler and he would use it when school term begins. “I love this Superman tumbler very much. He is my favourite super hero! He is the strongest man in the world as he saves a lot of people with his special powers,” he said.

“Christmas is a season to be jolly but can also be a season to feel sad, especially for the underprivileged. We are definitely happy that these children have not been forgotten during the festive season,” she said, adding that Tan Chong Group’s visit brought hope that there were people who cared for the less fortunate. The campaign received overwhelming response from the staff with a total of more than 200 gifts collected. Tan Chong Group opines that it is always good to give back to the community and we will continue to further increase our corporate sustainability initiatives to other unfortunate communities.
