NISSAN X-TRAIL RECEIVES TOP ACCOLADES AT 2015 ASEAN CAR OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Nissan X-Trail recently received double recognition at the inaugural ASEAN Car of the Year Award (ACOTY) when it was crowned the 2015 Malaysian ‘Family SUV of the Year’ and 2015 ASEAN Car of the Year (2nd Runner-Up).

Both awards were received by Mr. Tan Keng Meng, Director of Product Planning and Marketing, on behalf of Edaran Tan Chong Motor.

The X-Trail had bested out tough competition and gained the highest marks against the Hyundai Santa Fe and Isuzu MU-X. As the winner in the ‘Family SUV of the Year’, it was also fielded against 21 winners in the other categories – ultimately selected as one of the top three winners of the ASEAN Car of the Year award.

“We are very honoured to receive these awards. The Nissan X-Trail is not only one of the best-selling SUVs in the Malaysian’s market; and to be recognized at ASEAN level only goes to show that it has become the SUV of choice for consumers around the region. For ETCM, these awards are recognition towards our efforts with Nissan in providing value-for-money products with high level of quality, safety and performance to appeal to fellow Malaysians – and ASEAN drivers,” said Mr. Tan Keng Meng.

The first-of-its-kind 2015 ASEAN Car of the Year (ACOTY) awards is facilitated by iCar Asia, and is a joint initiative by motoring journalists from Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. Judges in the Malaysian panel include representatives from the newspaper, magazine and online medium such as Motor Trader, Autobuzz.my, Kensomouse, New Straits Times – Cars, Bikes, Trucks, Malaysian EVO, Pandu Laju, Countersteer.my, Top Gear (Chinese), Trafficmag Online, Live Life Drive and Carlist.my.

The industry-first scoring mechanism of the ACOTY combines scores from the judging panel, industry experts, and consumers to cover the full scope of vehicle ownership. This was created to better reflect a vehicle’s strength and weakness to ensure reliability rating, determine depreciation ratio, and lastly, ownership experience in order to provide a holistic evaluation.

22 winners for the Malaysian category of ACOTY were announced at the ceremony, ranging from budget cars, family cars to executive as well as performance cars, covering all consumer segments for Malaysia. In each category, the three most nominated cars by the respective panel of judges become finalists, from which they will be scored.
